Produce Dept. Training

Mitchell Grocery offers several different areas of training for their customers. The Produce Training Class will be starting it’s 5th year in 2020. Since this program was started it has had Store Owners, Store Managers, Asst. Store Managers, Market Managers, Produce Managers and other employees in the store to go through this class. The program is structured on the Produce Department but everything that is discussed relates to the total store operation. The Program is 1 day a week for 8 weeks, the start time is 9:30 to 2:30 central time and Tuesday has been the day that is best for the stores to send an employee. The Program is focused on the following things.

  • Ordering and Receiving
  • Sanitation
  • Merchandising
  • Hands on work on setting a Department
  • Rotation
  • Trimming and Crisping
  • The importance of Cut Fruit and Vegetables
  • Math that pertains to the retail operation
  • USDA guide lines on inspection
  • And many other items
